Chemical Tank Compliance Testing

Project Details

As part of our ongoing alliance with Energy Australia – Mount Piper Power Station, we undertook 10 year testing of water treatment chemical storage tanks at the site. The products included Caustic Soda and Sulpuric Acid

Our works incuded:-

  • Logistics and transfers of product from tank to tank to ensure continuity of supply to the water treatment plant.
  • Removal of the sludge from the tanks and treated externally with activated lime to neutralsie and convert to hard wasteFollowing successful reliability testing of the new system we decommissioned the old system and removed all redundant equipment.
  • The tanks where then high pressure water washed using a Dasic cleaning head, which rapidly converted any remaining acid and sludge into a neutralised solution that was suitable for disposal in setting ponds.
  • A corrosion inhibiter was then applied to the tank internal surfaces, to ensure no corrosion to occur.
  • Upon drying of the internals of tanks, atmosphere and surface testing was undertaken to confirm the safe entry.
  • We supplied the confined space entry personnle to manage the safe entry to the tanks for internal inspection and thickness testing of the tank surfaces.
  • Upon successful inspection of each tank, we replaced all valves and fittings using new bolts and gaskets, then returned them to service to suit the water treatment plant requirements.
